Vincent "Gunny" Van Dyke is the traveler from First Earth. He works at the Manhattan Tower Hotel in Manhattan. In The Never War, Gunny helped Bobby and Spader make sure the Hindenburg crashed. When Bobby was about to save the Hindenburg, Gunny held him back, therefore saving the Earth Territories. In The Reality Bug, Gunny went to Eelong to see what Saint Dane was up to and never returned. At the end of the book, Saint Dane appears to Mark and Courtney and told them to give a package to Bobby. The package contained Gunny's severed hand.
